Public Art

My public art experience started in Pittsburgh with The Sprout Fund and their public art program.  I have created three murals with The Sprout Fund from 2004 – 2007.  Since then, I have completed three public art projects for Duquesne University, including two murals and a lenticular animated mural in 2013.

My goal in creating art for public spaces is to create site-responsive projects that consider the nature of the space, its community, and its purpose. I feel it’s essential to have a complete appreciation for the location.  My process begins with research and dialogue sessions to gain insight on what design would best fit the space and represent the ideas of the collected ideas.  Next I will photograph the site and study its characteristics and the surrounding environment. Then I will begin to design for the space.

Being an interdisciplinary artist, I’m always excited to try something new. Bringing my animation skills to the lenticular piece was a new approach for a public installation.  I’m currently designing a fourth piece for Duquesne University in 2015 that will involve the possibility of working with lighting and sheet metal sculpture.
